Nerve Conduction Studies

Quad City Rheumatology utilizes the Axon Neural-Scan, a state of the art diagnostic machine, which can measure conduction of nerves either in the spine, e.g. pinched nerves in the neck or lower back or in the extremities, e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome. This is a painless and simple test, utilizing Q-tips rather than needles to measure conduction. A small electrical current is applied to different areas of the body using a pencil-like probe. When the patient begins to feel a buzzing or tingling sensation, the response is recorded. The entire procedure takes about 20 minutes. The results are then graphed on the computer and Dr. Miniter interprets the results. The patient is contacted within a few days with results.
